The Grants

Two grants. Nothing to pay back.

This January, two Nigerian businesses will each receive a grant. It is not a loan and not an investment — the money is yours to grow the business with.

₦1,000,000
Second place
One business
₦500,000
How you can use it: anything that grows the business — stock, equipment, tools, marketing, staff. The application asks how you plan to use it.

Why We're Doing This

Why give money away?

ProMoat Capital invests in small and medium businesses in Nigeria. To invest well, we need to meet good businesses early — and the best ones are usually busy working, not looking for investors.

This grant is how we meet them. Every application is read by our investment team. Two businesses get the grant, and if we like what you're building, we may also talk to you about investment. That conversation is always your choice, and it's separate from the grant.

Who Can Apply

The requirements are simple.

Your business makes money

You have paying customers. It doesn't have to be a lot — but it has to be real.

Your business is registered

You're registered with the CAC, as a business name or a company.

You have a business bank account

Not compulsory, but it counts in your favour — and it's where the money would go.

You operate in Nigeria

Any sector. Shops, farms, factories, services, software — all welcome.

One more thing: when you submit your application, you'll create a free account on our platform for small businesses. That's where you'll follow the progress of your application. It costs nothing, and there are no other terms — no equity, no repayment.

How It Works

Four steps from here to January.

  1. Now → October 31, 2026

    Apply

One form. It takes about 20 minutes. You don't need a pitch deck or a business plan document.

  2. November

    Review and first interviews

We read every application and call the businesses on our shortlist. It's a normal conversation about your business, on a phone or video call.

  3. December

    Final interviews

A longer conversation with the finalists — about your customers, your numbers, and your plan for the money.

  4. January 2027

    Winners announced, money paid

Both grants are paid out the same month — ₦1,000,000 and ₦500,000.

Questions

Common questions.

Do I have to pay this back?+

No. It's a grant, not a loan. We also don't take any share of your business.

What can I spend it on?+

Anything that grows the business — stock, equipment, marketing, staff. We ask for your plan in the application, and a clear plan improves your chances.

What does ProMoat get out of it?+

We're an investment firm, and this grant helps us meet good businesses early. Every application is read by our investment team, and some applicants may hear from us about investment later. That's always separate from the grant, and always your choice.

My business is small or young. Should I still apply?+

Yes — as long as you're registered and have paying customers. We care more about whether the business is real than how big or old it is.

When will I hear back?+

If you're shortlisted, we'll contact you in November. Winners are announced in January.

What if I miss the deadline?+

This grant will run again. This round is the January 2027 cohort — the next one will be announced on promoatcapital.com.
